To boldly go...

Tasked with updating a dining room filled with period architecture and detail, the design team decided to take bold measures. Literally.

The use of the dramatic, horizontally-striped paint effects offsets any notion of a staid, stuffy dining room. Instead, the stripes seem to highlight the curves of the room, and bring attention to the sharp contrasts within.

The designers used the blue accent colour in surprising ways throughout - including on the ceiling!

The reflective finishes of the table display and the mirrors add sparkle where the intensity of the stripes could not.

Adjacent to the dining room is a smaller sitting room used as a dessert area for smaller groups. The clever use of blue in the floral rug takes its colour cue from the blue painted inside the cabinets. The curtain fabric was kept to a more subtle pattern.

What a treat for the eyes to see that aqua blue shining out of the built-in cabinets! This was clearly done both to liven up the darker overall colour scheme, and to show that the owners and the design team are not above being a touch whimsical, while retaining the elegance of the room and the architecture of the mantle.
