Psychedelic Swirls

Combing a dark pink glaze over a light pink base coat creates an overall fresh pattern without overwhelming the space. White accents keep the colours crisp, while dark-tone pieces add weight and ground the room.

You will need:
- Satin paint: light pink (AF), dark pink (PR)
- Squeegee
- Crafts knife
- Ruler
- Scumble glaze
- Foam roller and tray
- Trim brush
- Soft rags

Here's how:
1. Base-coat the wall with PR; let dry.

2. Place a ruler next to the rubber edge of the squeegee to use as a cutting guide. Using a crafts knife, cut small notches every 3 mm.

3. Mix 4 parts glazing medium to 1 part AF.

4. Pour the glaze mixture into the roller pan and apply to the wall using a foam roller; use a trim brush for corners and around moulding. Apply the glaze in organic shapes approximately 2 metres square.

5. While the glaze is wet, use the squeegee to comb curved strokes in two directions to create a swirled design. Limit the length of the swipes to 20cm or less. Wipe the comb frequently with a damp rag to prevent a buildup of the glaze mixture. Let dry approximately two to four hours according to product instructions.
