Top painting tips from Prominent Paints

Prominent Paints have plenty of painting tips to share, and this month we have 5 painting tips you're sure to love.

1. Strain it!

Rather than throw away old paint because it contains a few gooey globs, recycle a plastic paint container into a paint strainer that you can use over and over again. Click here for instructions on how to make a paint strainer. If you’ve had the paint for more than four years - it’s best to safety dispose of and buy new.

2. All wrapped up!

Without something to hold them in place, paintbrush bristles can curl or splay as they dry. A good way to store them is to wrap them in cling wrap. That way they maintain their shape of the bristles as the brush dries after cleaning. This is also a great  tip to prevent brushes from drying out if you need to take a break when painting.

3. Its a stick up!

If your painter's tape or masking tape is old and sticks together, pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds. The glue will soften and its stickiness will yield.

4. Read the fine print!

As an alternative to masking tape, wet long strips of newspaper and place them on the glass alongside the wood you’re painting. Newspaper easily sticks to the surface, keeping paint off the glass or frames. Its also easier to remove than tape.

5. Add texture!

It's so easy to create a textured wall with this quick and easy tip! Wrap thin string around your paint roller a few times to create cool paint patterns on the wall. It will give your walls a great texturised look -fun for a kids room.
