A signature piece as the focal point

As the most dominating item in a room, the signature piece usually sets the tone and establishes a style. However, if this piece is not your specific style, the room will not look its best.

Choose the perfect colours

Every décor style has a colour palette that is usually associated with that particular style. For any style to be successful you need to make sure the room incorporates those colours. For example, French Country is well known for its pretty yellows and blues. Shaker Style, on the other hand, would not be the same without faded ivory.

Illuminate and highlight

To instill mood and atmosphere, the way you illuminate a room is one of the most important things you can do. Try out a variety of lighting styles to complement your decor: French-style chandeliers, Moroccan lanterns, a modernist coloured lamp.

Styled decor accessories and collectables

Every ones needs a conversation piece or collection that demonstrates our individual personality and interests. A collection doesn't need to be large - just three to five objects. Think of something like a few ginger jars for an Asian feel, or cute porcelain teapots to emphasise an English Garden style.

A touch of nature for freshness

Whether it's real or artificial, healthy looking plants are like the cherry on top of the cake - they add that final touch. Use succulents for a minimalist or contemporary look, or freshly cut flowers for a cottage or country style.

Stand back and review

By reviewing each element individually to see if it blends, you can make sure you have a well-coordinated look. Look for a geometric patterned pillow for a Modern look, while you could search for fringed lampshades for an Old World style.
