Casual Style
This tall cabinet adds storage and a casual country look to any room. The surprise is that it's so easy to make:

Start with an unfinished bookcase - whatever size suits your purpose - and add a pair of ready-made louvered shutters.

Shutters typically come in two styles: traditional (thinner slats) and plantation. The latter were selected because their scale fit this large unit.

You will find louvre door at pine furniture stores and kitchen manufacturers.

Frame It
Create a headboard picture frame by using decorative moulding from a home improvement store. Screw the moulding to a fabric-covered wood panel sized to fit the bed. Or adapt a prefabricated picture frame by screwing it to a fabric-covered plywood or supawood panel. Match the frame and the fabric to the bed linens.

Shelf Image
Want to give your display shelf a little visual excitement? Try changing the backdrop by inserting a fabric-covered panel - it can make simple objects come alive. Such panels are easy to put together and change, giving you a simple way to adapt your decorating scheme to the season or evolving tastes.

A Matter of Privacy
From unfinished bifold doors you can easily create a reversible folding screen. To make the screen more versatile, finish one side with a colourful paint treatment, and cover the other in a textured fabric such as burlap or linen.

DIY Tip:
You can easily make this screen from scratch with 4 pieces of 12mm Supawood and hinges.
