Connect the Dots

This white linen beauty brightens up a contemporary room with its polka-dot accents.

You will need:
- Plain white cotton fabric or linen (a rectangular tablecloth   or twin-size flat sheet also works)
- Iron-on fusing tape
- 2-4cm grommets
- Fabric paints in light shades of green, blue, and pink
- Artist's brush
- Circle stencils in three sizes

Here's how:
1. Measure from top of window to floor; add 14cm to the length for top and bottom hems.

2. For hems, turn sides under 2cm; press. Turn under an additional 2cm; press. Place fusing tape between layers; press to join. Turn top edge under 2cm; press. Turn under an additional 6cm; press. Place fusing tape along bottom edge of fold between layers; press to join. Turn bottom edge under 2cm; press. Turn under an additional 4cm; press. Place fusing tape along top edge of fold between layers; press to join.

3. Evenly space grommets along the top hem. Using stencils, fabric paints, and an artist's brush, paint circles in random sizes and colours onto the fabric panel. Let dry. Set the paint following the manufacturer's instructions. Thread grommets through a curtain rod and hang.

Who's Sari now!

To create this exotic treatment opposite, which reflects the beauty of an East Indian sari, edge blue sheer fabric with metallic ribbon.

You will need:
- Teal blue sheer fabric, or Sari material
- Silver metallic ribbon, sufficient to edge your fabric
- Iron-on fusing tape
- 14 clip-on metal curtain rings

Here's how:
For panel height, measure from top of window to floor, adding about 20cm to length for hems and to allow for puddling. Use the entire width of fabric for panel width.

1. Fold under top and bottom 2cm; press. Fold under an additional 4cm; press. Place fusing tape between layers; press to join.

2. Use fusing tape to secure metallic ribbon along long selvage edges of panels, folding ends of ribbons to back.

3. Evenly space the clip-on metal curtain rings across the top of each panel, and slip onto a curtain rod mounted above your window.

Design Tips:
For more colour options for your polka dots, you can use acrylic or crafts paints.
Use drinking glasses, cups, or plates as templates for stencils. Draw the shape onto acetate and cut out the interior with a crafts knife.
