Art frames with moulding and trim

A few pieces of pine moulding or trim, or even polystyrene crown moulding, and you can create stunning frames on a plain wall.

If you don’t have something to display on the wall, put the wall on display. Frames made from standard moulding available at your local hardware or building store highlight sections of artful wallpaper. A variety of moulding types and colours makes an interesting display.

Select a variety of designs of picture frame moulding and Woodoc 5 or 10 interior sealer mixed with concentrated wood stain in various colours. Choose sections of wallpaper to highlight, then mitre cut the moulding to size with a mitre box and saw, and use wood glue and panel pins to fasten the frames together. Thin strips of moulding set within larger frames suggest the look of picture mats.

Moulding trim comes in pine, meranti, polystyrene and supawood in various profiles, thicknesses and lengths. Use any offcuts to make your own frames for artwork and photographs and practice your mitre cutting skills.
