Victorian house goes modern

Preserving an architecturally listed victorian house is no easy task, but DOS architects were asked to extend the living space and inject life into the house, especially when the brief was to keep as much of the architectural detail and character in place.

Knocking down walls to open up the space and introduce more natural light resulted in an open plan floor area. The new extension at the rear of the property consists of a stainless steel frame and glass panels. The high-tech addition enhances the original design simply by virtue of its contrasting nature.

The homeowners designed and filled up the new space in a modern style that complements the original features and fittings.

Architectural detailing such as ceilings, mouldings, frames and panels were replaced or restored to stay true to the Victorian heritage of the property.
