Could you live in 16 square metres?

When an old building was converted into apartments, one apartment in particular was designed with a living space that fits neatly into 16 square metres. I've lived in a townhouse that was 66 square metres and that was a squeeze, but ingenious design has used this space to maximum potential.

If you consider that this space is only slightly bigger then a single garage, it's amazing how they managed to fit in a living space, work area, kitchen/dining area , bedroom and bathroom.

The ingenious part of this entire design is the way that the double bed slides out of the way under the raised kitchen. By day it's a comfortable place to sit and at night you simply pull out the large bed.

This idea would be ideal for a garage conversion or extra bedroom/living space in a small cottage.

At the opposite side of the lounge/sleeping area is a built-in desk that provides enough space for climbing out of bed and into your office. Wall-mounted storage serves both the work and living area, but there is plenty of storage in the kitchen and in the dining/breakfast bar. To the left of the workspace there are also large cupboards that contain hanging and shelf space for clothing.

At the end of the kitchen, sliding glass doors section off the compact bathroom. The bathroom features an open shower, basin and toilet.

It might be small, but this apartment has everything you need fitted into the compact space, and if you only pay rent according to square metres - this one would be a bargain!
