Frosted glass

By reversing the stencilling process in project [1], and masking the design, the spray paint can be used to resemble an etched design in the glass.

This effect can also be used on windows that do not have fitted curtains or drapes

You will need:
Frosted glass spray paint [at craft stores]
Self-adhesive vinyl
Craft knife
Stencil and thin, permanent marker
Masking tape
Glass cleaner and clean, lint-free cloth

Here's how:
1. Clean the window thoroughly using a glass cleaner and a soft, lint-free cloth.

2. Cut self-adhesive sheet to fit window size and affix to pane, pressing out any air bubbles. If more than one width is needed, slightly overlap the edges slightly.

3. Cut around the design. At corners, do not cut past the point of the intersecting lines. Remove vinyl in design areas to be frosted, using tip of craft kinife to lift edge and peel away. Check to be sure the glass surface is free of dust. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for applying spray. Spray onto the window in a sweeping motion from left to right, lightly respraying the surface several times. Allow to dry for 15 minutes. Repeat two or three times for good coverage. Mask any woodwork, walls or any areas of the glass not protected by the stencil, using masking tape and newspaper.

4. Remove vinyl in design areas, using tip of craft knife to left edges. Gently rub away any traces of adhesive left on the glass, using a soft cloth dipped in glass cleaner.
