Dramatic Ceilings
Ceilings are often neglected in the majority of interiors, yet can provide acoustic value, effectively define living spaces, and become an integral element of room design.
Crown mouldings, ceiling rosettes or medallions are one of the simplest yet most dramatic additions to interiors and make a huge impact on the quality of the ceiling. Even low ceilings can be treated to provide interest and visually increase the ceiling height.
Install medallions and rosettes
To attach a ceiling medallion first determine
and mark the centre point on the ceiling,
and then drill a hole at the centre point in the
ceiling. If you choose an intricately detailed rose,
we recommend that you finish the product
before installation.
Paint the decorative part of the ceiling rose in your desired colour, or apply any paint effect, and allow to dry. Touch up any areas after mounting. Lightly dampen the back of the ceiling rose to prevent excessive moisture suction. Cover the entire back of the rose with a layer of Rhino Art Adhesive to more or less the thickness of a finger.
Drill a hole in the centre of the rose, and at regular spaced intervals around the outer area. Push a screwdriver through the holes in the ceiling rose to make a hole in the ceiling. On the other side of the ceiling, secure timber (brandering) in which to screw the rose. Press the ceiling rose firmly onto the ceiling and fix it with screws through the holes in the ceiling rose and ceiling into the brandering.
Fill in any indentations with Spackle or Polyfilla, and touch up with paint once dry.
NOTE: If installation a ceiling rose over an existing light fitting or fan, ensure that the power is switched off at the main circuit board.
