After a few months spent hibernating from the cold (and wet) of winter, it's nice to be able to throw open windows and doors and let warmer breezes clean out the cobwebs. Spring is a time of rejuvenation, and cleaning and decluttering your home benefits just as much as your peace of mind. Decluttering for spring is a great way to get rid of items that are taking up space and weighing you down and you will be able to begin with a fresh home.

There are many reasons to declutter - there are blogs devoted to decluttering - and we list a few ways to declutter and refresh a home for the seasons ahead.

More Space

Clutter can soon accumulate in living areas; you take something out and never seem to get round to putting it back. Or perhaps your home is so cluttered there isn't room to put things back where they are supposed to go. Decluttering is a physical and mental exercise, but once you see how your living spaces appear larger and cleaner, you'll soon get in the habit of cleaning out more often. During the initial steps of this process you may discover a need for container storage for all of the things you have packed away in your home that you're not exactly ready to part ways with easily. So best store it away where it wont take up space without getting in the way

Make a Decision

Sometimes it's hard to let go of material possessions, whether you need them or not. But let's be honest, if you're tripping over stuff, or have to move stuff out of the way to go about your daily living, you obviously need to sort out what's important to you and ditch the rest.

Earn Cash

Once you started cleaning out you will accumulate unwanted items. One man's junk is another man's treasure and the Internet is a great way to get rid of items you no longer need - and you can easily make some extra cash in the process. The Internet is a great resource for selling absolutely anything. Websites such as www.gumtree.co.za or www.bidorbuy.co.za are the places to go if you want to sell stuff you no longer need. Or donate to a needy cause.

Do it Your Way

There's no right or wrong way to declutter and every situation will be different. Step back and look at your living spaces and decide where best to start and then set aside some time to work, room by room, until your home is free from clutter and ready for Spring. You don't need to tackle everything in one go if you have several rooms to clean out - start with a single room and work your way to a simplified space.
