Salt dough recipe and ideas
Salt dough is not only great for kids to use, adults can create with it too!
You will need:
2 Cups of cake flour
1 cup plain salt
1/2 cup lukewarm tap water
Here's how:
Mix the salt and flour in a large bowl and then add the water. Knead the mixture for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover with cling wrap to stop the dough drying out and let the dough sit for 30 minutes before using.
Drying the dough:
Ensuring your projects are correctly dried ensures they will last a long time so it is important that this is not hurried.
Air drying is suitable for small, flat pieces whilst oven drying is the most popular method and requires a very low temperature to avoid burning. Bake for approximately 2 hours at 80C.
Adding colour:
Food coloring in red, green, blue or yellow can be used, and colours can be combined to make even more shades.
You can also add colour with acrylic craft paints by kneading the dough until the paint is uniformly distributed through the mix.
