Help us 'yarn bomb' and you could be one of three readers who'll each win a cash prize of R5 000.

Every reader who owns a pair of knitting needles, a crochet hook or even a French knitting doll, can help us with the Ideas magazine giant yarn-bombing project.

Your handiwork will form part of a 'wool house' at the HOMEMAKERS Expo to be held in Gauteng during February, and you stand a chance of winning one of the three R5000 cash prizes.

After the event, your wool creations will be donated to the Knit-a-Square organisation, who will join everything together and donate the items to charity.

Our 'wool house' will require the following elements:

  • Circles with a 10cm diameter
  • Circles with a 20cm diameter
  • Blocks of 10 x 10cm
  • Blocks of 20 x 20cm
  • Strips of 100 x 20cm
  • Strips of 50 x 10cm
  • Flowers and leaves for our 'garden'.
  • Knitted and crocheted panels of 80 x 50cm into which the title of the magazine, Ideas, has been incorporated.
  • French knitting ('tolletjie-brei') is most welcome, because we can do a lot with the individual strands. You can make them as long as you like - depending on how much time and wool you have!
  • For the little 'paintings' inside the house, you can give free rein to your creativity. Use your knitting and crochet skills to create as many little pictures as you like, but they must be no larger than 50 x 50cm.
  • If you've already knitted the 12 x 12cm squares we requested in our August issue, send those too - every square will eventually find a place.

Each room in the house will have its own colour scheme, so please use these colours:

1 Pinks, oranges, purples and reds

2 Greens and blues

3 Black and white

The 'paintings' can be done in any colour. For the flowers and leaves in the garden, please use the shades of Mother Nature. Two of the prizes will be awarded to the most creative knitting project and most creative crochet project, respectively. All remaining projects will be eligible for the remaining prize, which will be chosen by lucky draw. You'll earn one entry for the draw for each piece sent in, so the more pieces you send, the better. To allow us time to put your work together, and to ensure you have a chance to relax during the end- of-year holiday, everything needs to reach us by 30 November 2011.
