Last minute gifts for her that you can make

Shopping is always madness at this time of year. You go out with good intentions and often get back home only to realise you forgot someone. It's understandable... the queues, the rush. We have put together a beautiful project that you can make if you need a last minute gift. This rosette necklace is inexpensive to make and yet looks stunning.

YOU WILL NEED:

Fabric - look in the specials or off-cut bin
Fabric glue
Optional - beads or buttons, plus needle and thread

HERE'S HOW:

1. Cut pieces of fabric to 3cm wide. Tear the fabric if you prefer a more shabby look! Bear in mind that the length of a strip will determine how large or small the final flower will be. A strip of 40cm is fine for small flowers, and about 1 metre for larger flowers.

2. At the starting point of each strip, tie a small, tight knot in one end of your strip.

3. Dab a small bead of fabric glue on the knot. Not too much - a little goes a long way.

4. Holding the knot in one hand, start twisting and turning the fabric around the centre knot. See the video below for instructions on the process for making a rosette. Dab a little fabric glue as you work to hold everything together.

5. Continue to twist and turn the fabric, adding a dab of glue here and there. You can also adjust the shape of the flower by how loosely or tightly you wrap.

6. When you get to the end, leave a short tail.

7. Cover the bottom of the rosette with more fabric glue, then press the tail down on it. This will ensure your rose really stays together.

Optional: Using a needle and clear (transparent) thread, sew beads or buttons in the middle.

Glue all the completed rosettes onto a piece of felt or mesh and add an inexpensive chain.
