Framed faux antique mirror

I love stuff that is worn and weathered. I think antique mirrors are so fun. But they can be hard to find and pretty expensive. Here's how to make a wall mirror with an antique twist.

YOU WILL NEED:

Mirror
Plascon RemovAll
Muriatic Acid*
Rust-Oleum Painters Touch 2X - black
Neoprene Gloves
Disposable mask
Plenty of mutton cloth

*Muriatic Acid is the same thing as hydrochloric acid.  It is perfectly safe to use if YOU are careful.  Do not use when they are children or pets around.  And DO wear gloves.

HERE'S HOW:

1. Liberally apply paint stripper to the back of the mirror and let it sit for 30 minutes.

2. Wipe off the paint stripper, and most of the paint should come off; rub or scrape hard if needed!

3. Fill a spray bottle with Muriatic acid, and lightly spray where you want the acid to eat through the reflective coating. Wipe off any excess acid as soon as you get the results you want. Use mutton cloth and wrap in newspaper before throwing away.

4. Use a screwdriver to scratch the mirror if you want a more dramatic effect.

5. Wipe down the mirror thoroughly with a wet cloth. This prevents the acid from continuing to eat the reflective coating.

Finishing
Spray paint the back of your mirror.

Add decoration

YOU WILL NEED:

Twine or thick string
Silicone tubing
Duct tape
Hot glue gun and glue sticks

HERE'S HOW:

Measure silicone tubing to fit around mirror to create the frame. Tape ends together securely using duct tape.

Wrap the twine or string around the tubing, applying a blob of hot glue as you work your way around. Use hot glue to glue the frame on top of the antiqued mirror. I cut up one of my husband's old belts to use for the strap. This needs to be sewn securely onto the frame with nylon line.
