Round-up of fave fabric upcycling projects

You never have to throw out old clothes ever again with so many amazing projects that upcycle old clothes. From rag rugs to fashion accessories, upcycling old clothing has become a fashion trend.

I am still loving crafty projects that use old t-shirts, sheets and fabric, like this rag rug above and my recent post on how to make a pouf using t-shirt yarn. If you don't have enough t-shirts to make an entire rug, buying jersey knit material at your local fabric store will still cost a fraction of that to buy a new rug.

If you would prefer to put those old jeans to better use than a rag rug, how about making a bag. This jeans bag is pretty simple to make and you can easily add a couple of straps to make a shoulder bag version. Or what about using denim jeans to craft storage baskets like the one shown below.

Upcycling old clothes, particularly t-shirts, has become a hot fashion trend and I just love t-shirt scarves. I actually went out and bought a couple of cheapie t-shirts just so that I could make a couple of scarves...! And what about making fabric bangles in colours to match all your outfits.

Use old clothes and fabric scraps to make toys, either for sale or for donation to a worth charity. I found these adorable bunnies on sweet living, and they also have a pattern you can use.

Remember these gorgeous fabric bunnies I featured some time ago. Make up a bunch for Easter. There's plenty of time to ask around for old clothes that can be repurposed, and you can use old pillows to stuff them.

Old clothes and fabrics are perfect for making patchwork items and accessories for the home. If you're looking for a way to bring in some extra cash each month, here's a way to make use of what normally gets thrown away. If you're sewing skills are not quite up the advanced level, you could still make colourful rag quilts.

Repurpose old clothes into fabric flowers. These fabric floral arrangements don't require any watering and they look good all year round.

Usually sold out, sisoi repurposes old clothes, mostly denim jeans, into fashion accessories that are in great demand. Love this shoulder bag with applique design.
