Make an Elephant Swag for Nursery

With our recent feature on making an upholstered pelmet for a nursery that featured elephants, we thought it might be nice to tie this in with an elephant garland that you can make using a Dremel Moto-Saw (or jigsaw).

Create a fun animal swag to hang over a new baby’s crib. Use a Dremel Moto-Saw, or jigsaw if you are experienced at detailed cutting. You don't only have to cut out elephants - be bold and create your own colourful zoo!

Print out the above template and use to transfer the elephants onto your piece of board. A 3mm or 6mm sheet of plywood or supawood is ideal for this type of project.

Cut out your shapes using a Moto-Saw and MS52 FineWood Blade. Sand smooth with 180-grit sandpaper if needed. If cutting out with a jigsaw be sure to use a workbench that opens in the centre and clamp down the board.

You can be as creative as you like. Use acrylic craft paint to paint the elephants, or use sprayable adhesive to stick on scrapbooking or patterned paper. You can even use patterned fabrics to match the existing decor. Glue the ears on with No More Nails.
