Crochet your way to a gorgeous rose cushion cover

Crochet is making a come back into the crafting screen and I for one love the new, trendy designs that are appearing. This gorgeous rose cushion cover is just one of many crochet projects I will be featuring on Home-Dzine. And don't forget to have fun by learning the basic stitches and abbreviations.

YOU WILL NEED:

450 g colour red
300 g colour pink

Crochet 16 flowers in 4 different colour combinations as follows:
FLOWER A: Crochet 4:
Round 1-6: pink.
Round 7-8: red
FLOWER B: Crochet 4:
Round 1-6: red.
Round 7-8: pink.
FLOWER C: Crochet 4:
Round 1-4: red.
Round 5-8: pink.
FLOWER D: Crochet 4:
Round 1-4: pink.
Round 5-8: red.
PATTERN: M.1 [BELOW] shows how the flowers are sewn tog.

 

 

HERE'S HOW:

To make the cushion cover:

Cast on 56 sts on needle size 8 mm with red. Work stocking st with 1 edge st each side until piece measures 90 cm. Fold cover double and sew tog the sides, inside 1 edge st. Fill with cushion and sew tog the last side.

To make the crochet flower:

Crochet 16 flowers as per the colours above
Crochet with crochet hook size 6 mm and Eskimo as follows: 4 ch and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.

ROUND 1: * 1 dc in ring, 3 ch *, repeat from *-* a total of 3 times and finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round = 3 ch-loops.

ROUND 2: Crochet as follows in each ch-loop: 1 sl st, 5 tr and 1 sl st = 3 leaves. Turn piece – work next round from the back of flower.

ROUND 3: 1 ch, 1 dc round first dc from round 1, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom between the 3rd and 4th tr on first leaf from round 2, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom between the first and 2nd tr on second leaf from round 2, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom between the 5th tr and sl st in second leaf from round 2, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom between the first and 2nd tr in third leaf from round 2, 3 ch, 1 sl st in first ch from beg of round = 5 ch-loops. Turn piece – work next from the front of flower.

ROUND 4: Crochet as follows in each ch-loop: 1 sl st, 6 tr and 1 sl st = 5 leaves. Turn piece – work next round from the back of flower.

ROUND 5: 1 ch, 1 dc round first dc from round 3, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 5th tr in first leaf from round 4, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 4th tr in second leaf from round 4, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 3rd tr in third leaf from round 4, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 2nd tr in fourth leaf from round 4, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of first tr in fifth leaf from round 4, 3 ch, 1 sl st in first ch from beg of round = 6 ch-loops. Turn piece – work next round from the front of flower.

ROUND 6: Crochet as follows in each ch-loop: 1 sl st, 6 tr and 1 sl st = 6 leaves. Turn piece – work next round from the back of flower.

ROUND 7: 1 ch, 1 dc round first dc from round 5, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 5th tr in first leaf from round 6, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 3rd tr in second leaf from round 6, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 2nd tr in third leaf from round 6, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 6th tr in third leaf from round 6, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 5th tr in fourth leaf from round 6, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 3rd tr in fifth leaf from round 6, 3 ch, 1 dc at the bottom of 2nd tr in sixth leaf from round 6, 3 ch, 1 sl st in first ch from beg of round = 8 ch-loops. Turn piece – work next round from the front of flower.

ROUND 8: Crochet as follows in each ch-loop: 1 sl st, 6 tr and 1 sl st = 8 leaves. Cut and fasten threads.

Sew the flowers tog according to M.1, sew tog in 5th round so that all the flowers make up a square. Sew the square to the cover, sew in each corner and in the middle.
