Crafty ideas for hanging plants 

Hanging plants are a wonderful way to bring a touch of the garden to your indoor spaces. We look at crafty ideas for hanging plants. 

Grab a can of Rust-Oleum 2X or Universal in your favourite colour and transform plain plastic pots into a corner arrangement plant hanger. 

Some sisal rope and a scrap piece of timber and you can make an attractive plant hanger for very little cost. This is a great idea for using reclaimed wood pallets as well. 

Macramé is a super-easy way to craft your own plant hangers. When making macramé plant hangers you can work with nylon line, sisal rope, cotton string, T-shirt yarn, or any other material that can be knotted. 

If you don't consider yourself very handy but like the look of macramé hangers, look at materials that can be used as an alternative so that you don't have to do any knots, like the leather plant hanger below. 

For plants that require little or hardly any water, like cacti or air plants, you can consider using air-dry clay to craft your own unique pots for plant hangers. 

For those with the necessary tools and some basic DIY savvy, there are a variety of wood products that you can use to craft unique plant hangers. Love the plywood plant hangers shown below - and so easy to make. 

You wouldn't think that plastic bowls would make attractive plant holders, but give them a coat or two of Rust-Oleum Universal metallic spray paint and you have affordable planter hangers that look stunning. 

If you like working with wood and are handy with a few basic tools, you can easily use tree trimmings from your garden, or buy affordable pine planks at your local Builders Warehouse, to make assorted plant hangers.

And don't forget that you can quite easily recycle items in the home to make your own decorative planter hangers. Think glass food jars, can and tins, even plastic containers can be given a coat or two of Rust-Oleum 2X spray paint and used to make fun plant hangers.

To add a fun splash of colour to your outdoor space, colanders in bold, bright colours look gorgeous when filled with colour annuals or bulbs.

But before you rush out to buy materials to make a plant hanger, consider items that you may already have. A steel birdhouse makes a wonderful hanging planter for assorted succulents.
