Refresh a bedroom

No need to keep your bedroom the same, season in and season out. These simple swaps offer a stylish change of scenery.

Pure white bedding, including a knit blanket instead of a bulky comforter, keeps the look crisp and spring-like. Creamy drapery panels with brushed trim offer contrast to the bright white.

Come spring, a lightweight floral throw announces spring's arrival. It takes only 2.5 metres of 1.50cm-wide fabric to make a throw. Line the fabric, or simply turn under the edges and stitch. Pompon fringe finishes the look.

If your bed is outdated, consider covering with faux suede or stylish plain fabrics to co-ordinate with your look. Both the head- and footboards can be padded with batting, before being covered with the fabric and stapled into place with a staple-gun.

Crisp Cotton Linens
Cottons and linens bring crisp, cool texture to the bed, which is plumped with monogrammed shams, yellow-cased pillows, and a kiwi-green bolster. The duvet, sporting yellow and kiwi stripes, shows its sunny personality.

Quick-change Art
Even artwork can use a seasonal boost. Scan leaves into a computer, then manipulate the images to create two striking designs. Attach each design to a painted artist's canvas, glue the canvas backs together, attach screw eyes to the top edge, and hang by wire from an upholstery stud for flip-flop art.
