This cot by shop.xo-inmyroom.com retails at around R11 250, excluding shipping costs. Made entirely hand-made out of reclaimed wood, using natural products and eco-friendly processes, the cot is fitted with a galvanised pipe fixed side on one side, painted in child-friendly white.

Make your own using reclaimed pine and pipe. If you do decide to make your own, you will find most of the materials needed for the projects below at your local Builders Warehouse.

 

Delivered as flat-pack, the cot is assembled at home and excludes the mattress and accessories. The cot measures 72cmW x 127cmL x 90cmH and weighs around 50kg.

Although I don't recommend reclaimed pallets for making this type of project, there are plenty of other sources for reclaimed timber if you keep an eye on your local classified.

While I love the fact that these beds are made using reclaimed timber and are finished in eco- and child-friendly options, the prices are exorbitant when you consider that they exclude accessories and shipping costs. The option to DIY this type of furniture, or have it made locally, means you still get designer-look furniture at a fraction of the price.
