Some bathrooms always feel cold and uninviting no matter what you do. But there are plenty of ways to warm up a bathroom that looks and feels cold and you don't need to spend that much to achieve this. We take a look at a few budget-friendly accessories that will bring warmth to any bathroom whether winter or summer.

There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning and having to head to a bathroom that is anything but welcoming. The floor is cold, walls are bare, and you are not looking forward to getting out of the shower. Try one of these budget-friendly hacks to keep your bathroom warm throughout the year.

1. Light up the room

The right type of lighting can instantly warm up a room and it can be as simple as changing the light bulbs. You need cool white LED lighting as task lighting for grooming and self-care in the mornings and evenings, but general lighting does not need to be as stark or cool. A temperature rating of 3500K is sufficient for task lighting over or around the bathroom vanity but lighting elsewhere can be warm white in the temperature range 2500K to 3000K. This is known as warm white but check out the temperature rating before you purchase globes that are too dark and don't bring enough light into the room. If you need to bring warmth to a bathroom that feels cold, the perfect LED lighting installation for a bathroom is one that provides bright task lighting and sources of warm LED lighting.

2. Textiles with warm colours

The right textiles in warm colours can make any bathroom feel more comfortable and are a budget-friendly way if you cannot afford the installation of heated towel rails or underfloor heating. Think of incorporating the following textiles:

• Bath Mats

It might seem silly that something as small as a bath mat can bring warmth to a bathroom but it has been shown time and again that any type of rug or mat is something you want to have in a home, especially when you have cold tiles or stone flooring. Mats also provide safety in the bathroom, giving you a soft, slip-free way to climb out of the bathtub or shower

"In general, warm colours are those in the red, orange, and yellow families, while cool colours are those in the green, blue, and purple families. Think scarlet, peach, pink, amber, sienna, and gold versus cooler teal, eggplant, emerald, aqua, and cobalt. Remember the colour wheel from grade school art class? A line drawn right through the middle divvies up those two groupings, although hues near where the halves meet (like purple) can function as "hybrid colours."

• Bath Towels

Who doesn't love a soft fluffy towel to wrap themselves in after a relaxing soak or shower? Selecting towels in warm hues isn't going to cost you more and towels need to be replaced when they lose their luxurious feel.

• Blinds

Fabric blinds are great for all types of windows - even bathrooms, but Roman blinds are easy to make and you can select colours and patterns that will complement and warm a bathroom. Alternatively, there are plenty of sources where you can have blinds made to size and can choose from a selection of fabrics.

• Shower Curtains

If you make use of a shower curtain rather than have a shower cubicle installed, this is yet another way to bring warm colours into the bathroom, whether solid colours, patterns or pretty designs. Don't miss the opportunity to incorporate warm colours in any way that you can.

Wood Furniture & Accessories

Wood in any shape or form will immediately warm up any room in a home and most definitely a bathroom. Even a single piece of wooden furniture or wooden accessories will serve the purpose. And wood is not only excellent for adding warmth but also for incorporating natural or organic elements. If you cannot afford solid wood bathroom furniture, there are other options to consider using engineered board products to make a bathroom vanity.

Even MelaWood, a laminate-covered board product, can be used to design custom furniture to fit into a bathroom and it looks as good as wood.
