Create the look
I'm not going to call this a home theatre, for me personally, this is more of a glam TV room! It's a room where hubby and I can sit and watch movies, or the kids can entertain their friends. It's also a room that has been decorated in a completely different style from the rest of the house - for a bit of fun!
You will need:
- Prominent Paints Ultra Matt (lightest grey)
- Painting equipment
- Rust-Oleum American Accents Designer Metallic (silver)
- Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch (black)
- Face mask
- Spirit level, straightedge, masking tape, pencil
- Contact adhesive
- Craft knife
- Wicanders cork flooring (Email)
- Wicanders DekWall (Email)
Here's how:
1. I used Prominent Paints Ultra Matt on the walls (black and lighest grey) and I chose matt as I wanted the walls to blend with the cork wall tiles, as well as adding some shiny metallic strips along one wall.
2. Once I had painted all the walls in the room with Ultra Matt, I used a spirit level and pencil to draw the position of the stripes onto the wall and then marked these off with masking tape.
3. Using American Accents Designer Metallic I sprayed on the metallic strips. This was so much easier than painting! The black stripe was done in the same way. The joy of using this product is that the stripes were touch-dry in 10 minutes and I was ready to carry on with the next project.
Important: When using spray paint in a room, always make sure that the room is well-ventilated and that you wear a face mask, as the fumes can be overpowering. The joy of using this product is that the stripes were touch-dry in 10 minutes and I was ready to carry on with the next project.
DIY Tip:
I painted the door in exactly the same colours as the wall. To do this I also used Ultra Matt on the door and finished off with 3 coats of water-based glaze coat for added protection.
4. Next step was to affix the DekWall cork tiles. It's always better to start at the bottom right-hand corner and work your way up. Begin with the bottom row and apply contact adhesive to both the wall and the cork tiles. Allow the glue to set for about 10 minutes and then carefully place the tiles onto the wall, ensuring that the entire surface of the tile sticks firmly.
5. Work your way up the wall in a staggered fashion. Row 2 will start with half a tile, row 3 with a full tile, row 4 with half a tile and so on right to the top. You can easily cut tiles to fit with a sharp craft knife and a piece of offcut timber to serve as a cutting board.
The room was dressed with accessories and decor accents from Home Comforts: Sunburst Mirror, Cushions, Curtains, Embroidered Quilt (Day-couch cover), Embroidered Quil (bed-couch cover), pictures and assorted accessories.
